She’s “Mom” to an elementary school student. She began her education career as a high school English teacher and basketball coach. She’s worked the slopes as a volunteer ski-patroller. Along the way, she was appointed to the District of Columbia’s School Board and was elected twice to the State Board of Education.
Prior to becoming CEO of CenterPoint, Laura was the CEO of Parcc Inc., working with educators and policy makers in to support states and districts prepare students for success in college and careers. Before joining Parcc Inc., she served as senior vice president at Achieve, a bipartisan education reform organization, which served as the project manager for PARCC from 2010-2013. She joined Achieve in 1998, working in various roles to support states in building systems of standards, assessments and accountability. From 2009–10, Laura led Achieve’s efforts to support the development of the Common Core State Standards.
Laura earned a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature from Harvard; a master’s in education curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado at Boulder; and a master’s in education policy from Georgetown. Her favorite teacher was Mr. Katzenbach, who livened up her ninth grade English classes with his trademark running shoes and tie.
